My friend has a 4 yr old boy who is very active. She told me about a problem she's having and I didn't know what to say. Tried googling but maybe you can help. He's been waking up in the night and hitting or kicking her, then lays right back down and goes back to sleep. His eyes are open but it's like he's doing this in his sleep. Any advice? BTDT? It's not necessarily a night terror. Ferber's book has a section on this, but i forget the name. My son did the same thing, but when he was younger (2.5-3). It was like he was possessed by a demon and that is just how Ferber says you recognize it. [ Reply | More ]

She gets overtired during the day and at night wakes up and tries to hit or kick you? Or she tries to hit or kick when she's overtired during the day. My friend did say that her ds will not take naps at home. [ Reply | More ]

That is funny she complains something is boring. My 4 yo calls things boring like it is the ultimate insult! [ Reply | More ]

They are called night terrors and pretty common. They are more disturbing for the mom than the child since the child is actually, literally asleep and won't remember anything. Have her discuss w/ped or read about it in baby books. [ Reply | More ]

google night terrors. My dc did this at age 3. He was asleep but looked awake and was thrashing around. For us, what worked was that we would just turn on the light in his room to wake him up. As soon as he woke up for real, he'd lay right down and go right back to sleep. I also read that sleeping without socks and your feet uncovered helped (weird I know)...we tried it but it didn't seem to stop it but you never know.... [ Reply | More ]
