NON G&T 99% moms only please. So for the rest of us - where will our dcs end up. I'm hoping my "only 98" dd still has a shot at a citywide but UB has me thinking its impossible.... and I don't think I can stomach our district G&T [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

isn't 282 supposed to be okay? I've heard mixed accounts of 20 and not familiar with 9 or 3. What's your zoned school? [ Reply | More ]

I couldn't reply to your post so I'm replying here. I think 282 is the best out of the bunch - but I went on a tour there and I didn't like the impression I left with. Administration clearly didn't give a crap about what parents thought and seemed pretty rigid [ Reply | More ]

That's too bad. I haven't toured it (in D15), but have heard good things. With a 98, your dd still has a good shot at citywide. Did you first choice NEST? [ Reply | More ]

Yes. What good things have your heard about 282? [ Reply | More ]

look this is all hype. there were just as many kids applying last year. there are not that many sibs as anticipated. the same schools are popular as before with the exception of nest...a fluke. basically the breakdown will happen as it always has. nothing much has changed. [ Reply | More ]

You can't stomach your district G&T? I don't usually call "entitled" but come *on*! [ Reply | More ]

np: also zoned for PS 282 in Bk too - you guys just don't understand how much this school does NOT want parent involvement. it makes me really mad b/c it could be a great school. I'd love to get involved, and my DD is only 2 now. right now, it's too rigid for us to consider a viable option. [ Reply | More ]

NP: I have a feeling you haven't visited some of the outerborough G&Ts. Queens has some good ones (and some bad) and parts of Brooklyn have some that are not at all good. Perhaps the poster is not entitled, but, rather, you are priveleged. [ Reply | More ]

There are many options other than feeling entitled to a citywide. Any kid who scored 97+ is *just* as entitled. Lottery? Move? Private? Help make change? [ Reply | More ]

But here's the thing. The sort of person who makes change, who demands more from the public school system, is the sort of person who is called "entitled" all the time. BTW private is crushingly expensive, beyond the means of most people who live in district 13. Moving is an option, of course, but most of the suburbs with good schools are pretty expensive too. I feel lucky that I can afford to rent in D2 and have a decent option: I don't judge people who can't and don't. [ Reply | More ]

Demanding more and taking action to bring about change are two entirely different things. [ Reply | More ]

I don't feel entitled to a citywide per se - I just want a better education for my child at a school that has an administration that is welcoming to parents that want to be involved in their child's education. That is not the case with the district schools that we have access to. You can't change a school that isn't interested in changing. BTDT. Private too expensive. Tried lottery -- guess what its a lottery -- we were number 166 in a lottery with only 45 open seats. Move -- also expensive and can't afford to buy into a "good school" district. It is easy to say someone is acting entitled -- all I want is a good education option for my kid. [ Reply | More ]

122 is good for elementary, excellent for middle school. I think 150 G&T in sunnyside is supposed to be good. There are some good ones in Forest Hillls (but I'm not up on them). You could probably do okay at 69 in Jackson Heights as well. [ Reply | More ]

Another 98 here who has worked herself into a tizzy after reading UB too much. Because I am district 3, I am also worried about being closed out of the top two district programs...Hopefully they will let us know soon and put us out of our misery [ Reply | More ]

I just don't know. I remember thinking there was no way Hunter would have a cut off at 98% and yet they did. [ Reply | More ]

I can't reply directly to the person who posted about Hunter's cutoff being 98 so I will reply here: That is a much more self-selected group (e.g., willing to shell out $300K and to go outside the regular process to seek out the application). Based on their application numbers they had about 17.5% getting a 98 or 99. For NYC the proportion getting 97+ was 6%. [ Reply | More ]
