Does anyone have insight on using an OB not covered by insurance? I've been noticing that some of the better doctors recommended in NYC do not accept insurance. I have a pretty good plan and assume I could get reasonable reinbursement (80% out of network) but don't want to get stuck with a lot of extra charges. Has anyone had experience using a non insurance accepting Dr. while pregnant? Were your hospital bills covered and just not all of your Dr.? I want to get a good Dr. but balance that with being cost sensible. More money to spend on other things right? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I have. Make sure they use labs that are in your insurance network. And if they don't see if you can get the blood draws done by an in network doctor. For example I had my regular doctor give me a flu shot and I didn't have to pay. [ Reply | More ]

Do you have any rough sense of what you ended up paying of your own money when all was said and done? [ Reply | More ]

you can get this in advance. Have the OB office file the forms of charges with your insurance - or maybe you get what the insurance list as reasonable and customary first. At any rate, I had that information going in and it stayed the same. [ Reply | More ]

I went through this when looking for a new Dr. I finally found a Dr. in-network who is fantastic. I recently became pregnant and when I went for my first appointment they told me that I would only pay one $20 co-pay EVER. At that point I knew it was worthwhile looking for a great in-network Dr. I am sure you can do out-of but its so much simpler and one thing less to worry about. Good luck. [ Reply | More ]
