Just got back from my 26 week check up and was told I gained too much weight. I'm so upset b/c I try to eat better but I just crave sweet things all the time. I just feel so despondent and that I'm already turning out to be a bad mother b/c I can't even follow simple rules about what to eat. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

don't worry. with each of my pg, I gained 8 lbs bw dr appts around 22 wks. i gained 40 with my first, 19 with my 2nd and lost all the wt. it is hard for you in this heat, so, if you are like me, you wallow in what is bad. plus, in this heat, it could be water retention [ Reply | More ]

if you're craving sweet foods, you may need mor eenergy. so perhaps try eating lean meats, cheeses or nuts when you have those cravings. see how it effects them over a week or two. [ Reply | More ]

it will be fine. just keep eating the best you can and try to get some exercise. I gained a little more than I wanted with all 3 of mine, but I've lost it all too. I gained 34 lb, 38 lb and 42 lb. It took me 5 months, 9 months and 13 months to lose it, but I am now back to my normal weight after #3. I too was depressed about gaining fast with #3. Just do the best you can, but don't stress about it! I too craved sweets a lot when pregnant-try to have things like cucumbers, celery to snack on when you just feel like munching and limit the sweets. [ Reply | More ]

What is "too much"? I smell BS. I gained 45 my first time and 35 my second. Both times the weight just came off. My friend gained SIXTY, and she lost it all too without any effort. I think you gain what you gain. BUT, I did find that if I cut out all white carbs (including pasta) and ate lots of lean protein, I could go longer between meals. I just wasn't as hungry. Really really bad advice from your Dr. Follow your body - if you need sweets more its because your body needs more calories. Many many people are retaining water in this weather and it is especially bad if you are pregnant - did they tell you that? [ Reply | More ]

do make sure to drink a lot of water-you need more than you think-you should need to be peeing pretty often. When I noticed I wasn't needing to use the bathroom as often, that was when I gained a big amount (which was partly water retention I think). So I started drinking a lot more and it did help the weight gain slow down. [ Reply | More ]

too much totally exists....recent studies now siggest that pregnancy is leading factor in obesity and that there are many overweight women who have better outomes if they actually lose weight while pg [ Reply | More ]

I gained 20 lbs at my 20 week appointment. my OB does not think it's an issue at all. she herself gained a lot during both of her pregnancies. many times, the male OBs make an issue of weight gain and many female OBs think it's a mistake to focus on it. [ Reply | More ]

Can anybody explain to me why weight gain is such a hot topic with some OB/GYNs. I had three pregnancies and with all three I had my doctor (three different doctors) tell me all the time I should watch my weight blah blah. In the end I gained a lot, I gave birth to healthy children, I lost my weight sooner or later. [ Reply | More ]

God, get a new doctor. Mine hassled me, too, and wanted me to see a nutritionist. By term, I had actually only gained 28 pounds. I went to another for the last two pgs. I've been pg 4 times, gained differently with all of them, eaten the same. The smaller gains actually took longer for me to lose, strangely. I've gained 55 (!), 28, 28, 30. Whatever. I am back to my original post all-babies weight. [ Reply | More ]
