MIL has recently started sharing with me some personal info about SIL's struggle with infertility. I had no idea she's been going through this -- she is still young (30) so if I thought about it at all, I just figured she and her husband weren't ready to have kids yet. SIL and I aren't close and I kind of feel like she wouldn't be happy if she knew MIL was telling me about this difficult experience. So, should I do anything? Tell MIL to stop sharing? Say something to SIL? Or just try to be sympathetic to MIL (who is obviously stressed out about this) and don't ever let on to SIL that I know. So far this last option has been my choice. But I also wouldn't want her to think i don't care...plus I am now pg with my 2nd dc...I'm not sure if I even need advice or just wanted to vent this to someone! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i have been in her situation. young and going for fertility treatments... my advice is not to butt in. MIL probably shouldnt have told you in the first place. if SIL wants to tell you she will. [ Reply | More ]

I would keep on with what you're doing. And if you want to let SIL know you're there for her, don't let on that MIL told you. Just ask a general question or perhaps make a comment about a friend or something that lets her bring it up if she wants to talk about it. [ Reply | More ]

ditto - just let MIL vent - she probably doesn't want to talk with SIL about her worries, etc so she needs an outlet. I also agree with the above poster - maybe mention a "friend" that is going trough something like SIL is and see if SIL opens up to you. [ Reply | More ]
