what do you want to know? she's fabulous. LL is lucky to get her. she's a great administrator, and very smart. [ Reply | More ]

Is she very strict in terms of what a gifted-child are? I have found that they come in all varieties, but some schools only choose to deal with the text-book variety. [ Reply | More ]

NP, but it doesn't really matter now that admissions is centralized. They get what they get and they don't get upset. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but some schools try to counsel out kids who don't fit their "vision" of a gifted kid and some principals, like Lower Lab's outgoing Renay, choose to keep and work with every child they get. [ Reply | More ]

Can a public school, even a gifted one, "counsel out" kids? [ Reply | More ]

NP, and sort of, but who would want to keep their child at a school where he/she was struggling to keep up with classmates anyway? How horrible for the dc just to get a G&T label. [ Reply | More ]

I worked with Mara for a few years. I don't know that I'd call her super intelligent, but I do think she is a good administrator and knows her stuff. [ Reply | More ]

Why does she refer to herself as "Doctor" all the time? It seems so pointed and weird. [ Reply | More ]

at anderson, adults go by last name. she's a phd and is therefore referred to by the kids as dr koetke. adults call her mara. [ Reply | More ]

Everybody else at LL goes by first name (even the kids). The former principal went by her first name. Not it's Dr. Koetke. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's about time that a school administrator is being address by last name and title. They need to know who the authority figures are. Do you let your child call you by your first name or a title... mom? [ Reply | More ]

I don't mean struggling, just a different kind of learner. Shy vs. outgoing. [ Reply | More ]

I have a kid in a G&T, who does physical therapy, and the teacher thought she belonged elsewhere. It took the intervention of the school psychologist to say just because this kid can't run and jump like the others, doesn't mean she'd not bright. She remained and is doing very well. [ Reply | More ]
