going to first bris next week - v. good friend just had 2nd baby. Can anyone enlighten me as to what to expect. They told everyone to bring their kids - should I take my 4 yo? Also, invite says "no gifts - please consider donating to X charity". Would you still take a gift? tia! (also, is it a "dress-up" affair?") [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

no need to bring a gift. if you want, you could send one, but i would just donate to charity. you can definitely bring your 4yo - s/he won't be able to see anything anyway. s/he will just need to be quiet during the actual ceremony - only about 10 minutes. then - bagels! tell 4yo its a party to welcome the new baby and announce his name. dress is not fancy but depends on location. is it at home or a synagogue? if a synagogue, skirt and shoulders covered is safest. if at home, nice pants should be fine.
