Everyone always says kids at a given publlic got their first choice MS or HS (first heard this at anderson onsite last year). But the kids have to have a certain score on the test to get in, and don't even apply to top programs if they did not score well. so of course they got their fc school. its the one they were eligible for. hardly a big deal [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

of course it's a big deal. there is no guarantee that your dc will get fc even if they qualify. always more applicants than spots. [ Reply | More ]

You know not of what you speak. While there are a few MSs and HSs that are entirely score based (Stuy, Bx Sci and the other specialized schools) or mostly score based (e.g., Delta), the majority of the really good schools (e.g., ESMS, Salk, Beacon, Bard, LaGuardia, Millennium Townshend Harris) take scores into consideration along with grades, attendance, portfolio work, and everything else (and for LaGuardia, auditions as well). For those schools (esp the HSs) the odds of getting in based on the numbers of kids applying are steep (less than 5% or 10%). So don't piss on these kids who work their asses off and due to that hard work and luck get into their FC schools. [ Reply | More ]
