There seems to be a poster or a few posters who are hell bent in making sure we all think the test scores don't have anything at all to do with intelligence. obviously it is a person or people who feel bad/embarrassed that their kids didn't do well. But the truth, and we all know it, is that you DO have to be smart to ace the OLSAT, SB and ERB. Not that plenty of smart kids don't bomb, but to get that 99 you do have to be a smart kid. Period, end of story. You can argue if you want but you'll be wrong. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

ssshhhh -- if she has to admit that a random test doesn't prove her kid is "smart" then what does she have left to hold onto?? [ Reply | More ]

Well, I was one of those kids who aced tests. I wasn't dumb, but certainly not gifted in a real way. [ Reply | More ]

Are you the poster who was nasty to the 98 SB kid with a 99 OLSAT hoping for Anderson? You must have a huge stick up your ass lady. [ Reply | More ]

My dd aced it, didn't get a single question wrong on OLSAT, 2 wrong on BRSA. Yes, she's smart, but I think luck is a huge factor also. She could just as easily have bombed it. And it's absurd that so much rides on a single 45 minute test of a 4 yr old. Those posters are expressing legitimate frustration with this system. [ Reply | More ]

my kid lives in nc so isn't tested, so i don't have a particular dog in this fight. however, i think your post is really insensitive and unreasonable. kids have a variety of intelligences. one of the factors for happiness and success in relating to others is emotional iq. also, god blesses the kids who test high but also the ones who don't, who skills may show up in different ways. there are lots of different intelligences. all this testing seems so sad to me. also, to lambast others when your child obviously scored high is just unseemly. I'm the poster above you, and ITA. Nicely put. I hate feeling hostage to this process especially when I disagree with the underlying assumptions. [ Reply | More ]

what a repulsive thing to say about people who question the sanity of testing our kids [ Reply | More ]

I half agree. I think a dc that scores consistently high on these tests probably has something going for her but on the other hand I don't think we should be making distinctions between percentiles. Do you really think a 98 is "smarter" than a 97? I doubt it. I think it's ridiculous all the "high" 99s saying that their kids are more deserving of a spot than a "low" 99 or even a 98 for that matter. [ Reply | More ]

Just logged on--so I don't know too much about the debate here--but I agree that there are probably lots of false negatives, but not false positives. [ Reply | More ]
