You don't feel that an administrator's job has anything to do with educational philosophy? I would think that it does, in terms of hiring and supporting teachers and in terms of educational approaches used by those teachers. I'm told Anderson uses Prentice Hall Course One text book in 5th grade math, for example. I don't think Lower Lab currently has this kind of solid, factual approach to teaching math. [ Reply | More ]

this is the example of educational approach/philosophy that would make it seem strange for an administrator to pick a job at one or the other school? a textbook? many schools in Podunk, USA use prentice Hall. BTW, hardly some giant leap in education. its like middle america [ Reply | More ]

^^^your post reminds me of how crazy the whole schools thing is in NYC. Its like elementary education is so impossible to figure out, and terrible here that we cling to a little bit of what people elsewhere are doing without thinking so much about it. Even the idea that a citywide might be accelerated in math. school across america are excellerated in both ela and math. kids test every year to see if they should remain accelerated in a subject, etc. NYC is archaic and so we cling and cling [ Reply | More ]

Lower Lab's math has long been seen as problematic by some parents; it's in District 2 which uses TERC, but as of last year it was beefed up somewhat. I hope the new principal will also do something about the science and spanish, which seem weak to me. Also the recess policies are not great. But overall LOVE lab! [ Reply | More ]
