Poll - would you stay in your cheap beautful place with crappy schools (and be able to pay for private) or leverage yourself to buy a nice place (but not as nice as what you have now) with good public schools in NYC [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

nice place in a good district. You can't count on private, nor on G&T. A good zoned school is worth sacrificing for. [ Reply | More ]

I am the former. And in a twist of fate, my ds has had to attend the crappy public schools this past year. Hate the school, but haven't felt the need to move yet. [ Reply | More ]

We opted to live in a great school system with less house. I am not sure I would do this always, but I didn't want the hassle of dealing with schools far away or shlepping my kids to them. I also think it makes for a nicer neighborhood. [ Reply | More ]

if it is for this year, wait to see where dc goes. if next year, wait to see if they end up rezoning before leveraging yourself [ Reply | More ]

I would apply to privates and G&T and see what my options were. Also, are you renting now? That might make me lean towards buying. [ Reply | More ]

With all of the uncertainty about how to deal with systemic overcrowding in the public schools (yes, even the "good" publics), you might end up buying into a good zone, only to be re-zoned out of that zone. It's just a possiblity that you need to seriously consider. [ Reply | More ]
