Congratulations! I am here for the G&T placements, but my heart has really been going out to the middle schoolers and I definitely see that as the biggest travesty of the DOE this year. It is a big difference to leave 10-11 year olds hanging than it is to bother the parents of 3 to 5 year olds! We are grownups, we can deal with this stress--but to do it to pre-teens is totally not cool. [ Reply | More

I don't deny that it sucks for you and I am sorry that you are stuck after one policy was communicated to you and another was followed--I was only commenting that the middle school process really sucked for the kids themselves. Your child will not remember this in all likelihood. [ Reply | More

The middle schools use the NY State 4th grade tests (ELA and Math) as entrance criteria. So the schools prep the kids anyway. [ Reply | More

np: sadly I'm sure there are many variations on this playing out now. Years ago df did backflips to get her dc into Delta even though dc was below cutoff - didn't make it and dc was very nearly SO of everywhere else. All her dc's friends were going there and dc was miserable not to join them -- it's way too young IMHO for kids to have to deal with this crap. [ Reply | More
