Help! I am so stressed. I want to be a sahm. If I QUIT my job, after all of the bills are paid (including food and gas) we will only have $1000 left over each month. We have $15000 in savings. So scared to quit my job because I make good money. I am miserable working. Should I quit? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Can you go part time? Now is a scary time to rely on one salary. [ Reply | More ]

My current employer does not have part time work available. I haven't had any luck finding part time employment. [ Reply | More ]

I quit. And I haven't regretted it. Yes, we do worry about money now when we didn't before - but it's better than the worry/stress that the job was doing to me. GL! [ Reply | More ]

In this economy, though, I would think long and hard about the possibility that DH might lose his job before quitting. I have a good friend who was her family's breadwinner and she has been unemployed for 5 months now; laid off and can't find work. [ Reply | More ]

A really good point. Depending on where you are, things aren't looking too good for the economy in the short term. Especially if you have anything to do with cars, travel or old-school media. [ Reply | More ]

1000 left over each month is much more than we have and we both work. [ Reply | More ]

No, you don't have enough of a cushion. You or your dh need to find better paying jobs if you want to stay home or you need to find a more satisfying job so you look forward to work. If only one works, you should save 12 mos expenses in savings and have a home equity line of credit (which you can't get once you lose your job) or other comparable cushion (wealthy parents, etc).
