From DOE website homepage: We know that parents are anxiously awaiting letters from the Office of Student Enrollment regarding their children’s placement into gifted and talented programs. We are in the process of verifying student information on all applications submitted. All families will receive placement letters this week. As much as I am dying to get our placement letter, it's nice to see that they are at least attempting to keep the public updated on the process. The DOE provides ample ammunition to its critics, but how could someone criticize them for this? This is what they SHOULD be doing. [ Reply | More

They're not even purporting to provide transparency, and I don't believe they ever will (again, ample ammunition). Trust me, I'm totally with you on the day late thing. But come on. There is no pleasing some of you. Just try to remember that the DOE serves the entire public school system of this great city. That is TONS of kids, TONS of families & communities. ITA - they're responsible for 1.1 million kids -- it's the largest school system in the nation -- and the G&Ts are a tiny fraction, many of whom have good gen ed (or even private) options open to them. That said, they have been pretty lame out it! [ Reply | More

So they said we will receive them this week, which means, they really need to mail them before Friday, otherwise they would have said "will be mailed this week" - right? Here's my guess: they ran the computer program and assigned everyone a school. Now they are going through by hand to make sure that siblings were appropriately assigned (and that they were legitimate siblings--different names and addresses will make that harder) and perhaps to even logic test and make sure that non-sibling 97s weren't assigned before 98s and 99s etc. [ Reply | More
