my housekeeper comes once a week. Dh thinks that since we've rented a house 2 hrs away this summer and he is able to work there all but two days a week, that I should have housekeeper come every other week and pay her only when she comes. Is this okay? What do those of you who go to the Hamptons all summer do? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

my housekeeper/nanny works half of the week at our summer home (and stays over night) instead of a full week in NYC. It is also a little under 2 hours by train to our beach hosue, so at times, she will clean there for the day instead for working in NYC, as needed. We also always offer our house to her and her family when we aren't there on weekends, etc. [ Reply | More

I don't think it "irregular" or unexpected, but it does decrease her income (a moral consideration I think that good employers and those that can afford to do so take into consideration). Just let her know well in advance, if you can not afford to pay her. But I think that would be a hard case to make, if youcan afford to reant ahome for the summer. [ Reply | More

It sucks for your cleaning lady. If I were her I'd be looking for someone who could guarantee me full time work. Can you find someone who can use her on your off weeks? Can she do other things for you? Organize closets, bigger projects? If you can afford a full time summer rental I think you can probably find a way to make this work financially for your cleaning lady. [ Reply | More

I think your dh is being pretty inconsiderate. She's probably not looking for leisure time and would probably have a hard time making up the hours doing random things for other people. [ Reply | More
