WHY do people schedule their weddings for holiday weekends? On top of the added expense for airfare, I dread the holiday crowds at the airport. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

It's cute that you must assume that anyone who disagrees with your attitude must have had a holiday weekend wedding. I didn't. I just don't understand your attitude at all. If it's such a big problem for you don't go. It's very simple and there is no whining required. [ Reply | More ]

Same here, but I did it over Labor Day and the flights weren't more expensive. At the time we live in a small town so the flights were always pretty pricy. We only had family though, so it was like a big reunion. [ Reply | More ]

It is, but even this was all drama. DH's other sister FLIPPED when she heard they weren't inviting kids to the wedding, even though they live locally. So now we are stuck shlepping the kids across the country because once SIL decided on the kid's party they HAD to come. DH's family is all ultimatums, all the time. [ Reply | More ]

We did ours in Oct so it was that weekend that some people get and others dont. The wedding was in St. Thomas so it was a destination wedding and we thought some might want to spend the extra time there. We also worked very very closely with an airline and got real discounts for people. But we have a wedding to go to in Canada during their high season and we are flying into Buffalo and driving and extra two hours to save money. [ Reply | More ]

I just went to one last Thanksgiving. The bride and groom thought, "Well, everyone will have it off." Exactly, the ENTIRE COUNTRY will have it off as it is the busiest travel holiday of the year. Tickets which would have normally cost $250 each were close to $500 each. It was ridiculous as both the bride and grooms families had to fly in for this, many from across the country, and the entire weekend was planned, Thanksgiving dinner, city tour, rehearsal dinner, wedding, reception, after-reception reception, and breakfast. The bride's sister had just had a baby, so she had to tote around a one month old the entire time. It was completely obnoxious. Everyone says that it was just one day, well it was more like five days. [ Reply | More ]

We had our wedding on a holiday weekend (Columbus Day) specifically to accommodate our guests--this way no one had to take a day off work to get here. And, of course, they were free not to come of it was an issue. [ Reply | More ]

Hey OR - If we could skip it without alienating all of DH's family, we would. But the extra $2k in airfare alone is hard for us, and the last time I tried to fly on Labor Day weekend, the overbookings and delays were atrocious. It's going to be really hard with the kids. [ Reply | More ]
