Did anyone see the article yesterday in the NY Post about preschools skipping background checks on teachers. My child is attending Washington market in the fall and I am truly considering withdrawing my application. I have seen posts recently about the staff changeover and the school also had issues regarding the certificate of occupancy during the year. It appears to me the school is poorly run and to not do backgound checks when it is a DOH requirement, shows complete incompetance in running a school. Can any parents of WMS give me some insight or your thoughts about how you feel returning in Sept. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

there are two sides to every story and the Post did not interview the schools to deliver an "unbiased" view. get the other side before believing what you read. [ Reply | More ]

I am a parent of a child at one of the schools that is mentioned. it's the Post. they are just trying to stir up trouble. there is nothing wrong with these schools. we got an email from the director of our school refuting what the Post wrote. [ Reply | More ]

Talk to the school about your concerns. No doubt they will have to tighten things up now. Many schools were on the list. [ Reply | More ]

FWIW, 2 years ago someone looked up the violations on a school they were considering, which happened to be my children's school. There was a violation. turns out it was b/c one of the fingerprint results weren't recorded yet. It was totally nothing and the school is great. But on UB, everyone was freaking out, saying don't apply, pull your kids out etc. It was so silly. [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't be too worried. We are at WMS and the teachers have mostly been there forever and there is no time one teacher is alone with kids. [ Reply | More ]
