2 yo's bday party tomorrow. Supposed to be mid-90s. Do I do it inside (small apt) in A/C or outside in back yard area (shady, but will still be verrrry hot)? My urge is to do it outside (pg and don't feel like cleaning up apt before--or after--party), but will all the other mothers hate me? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

i totally agree -- if you're not going to make the smallest effort to make things comfortabl for your guests, you have no business hosting a party [ Reply | More ]

No. It's NYC. It's the building's communal garden. Against the rules. I wish. I doubt the kids will care about the heat (my son doesn't). It's more the mothers I'm worried about. As evidenced by above. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe I'll just tell people it's outside and if they dont' want to come, I understand. Then people like you guys can stay inside with your kids climbing the walls and people who are less picky can come and have fun at my party. [ Reply | More ]

I run a party business. Sunday we had an outdoor party planned (mother's idea, not mine) it was terrible. the bday girl had a melt down and the crafts had to be moved inside. ask someone to help you but it is unbearable to a group of young kids. good luck [ Reply | More ]

Eh, it's an hour and a half and then the building cleans up instead of me. Also, I feel like more likely the kids will have breakdowns inside. There's a playground outside, fewer toys to cry over, more space, etc. [ Reply | More ]

it is rude to have the party and expect your guests to suffer just so you don't need to clean. what you'll end up with is a 20 minute miserable stay at what will in the end merely be a gift drop-off for your child. not cool/ [ Reply | More ]

I actually also think it will be more fun for the kids outside. It's not just not to clean. Frankly, the cleaning isn't the big problem. It's the what the f--k do that many kids do inside? [ Reply | More ]

I don't think it's necessarily bad hosting to have an outside party! Not everyone is psychotic about hot weather! I"m not! I wouldn't consider it rude for someone to have a party outside. But I have noticed a lot of people belly-aching about the weather, so I asked. I'm put out more by the tenor of the responses here, like it was rude of me to even ask on UB as I make the decision. Jeesh. The party is tomorrow. No decisions have been made. Everyone can relax. And none of you are invited anyway so you can doubly relax. You will not be made to eat ice cream in my garden. Christ. they are 2 years old. it's called playing with toys and running around. a 2 year old doesn't know how to do squirt toys and they might not like it. you should do it inside. like i said below, i am having a party with 8 kids at my apt next week [ Reply | More ]

Trust me. It will not be more fun for the kids outside. I did a party in central park on such a day. The kids came dressed up and were miserable. The cake's frosting melted, the clown's makeup melted, the cheese & cold cuts platter melted. The kids were miserable until we let them strip down & run around in the parks sprinklers. Don't do it! Not too be snarky but I'm not sure why you asked? You really do seem to have made up your mind and now you seem mad that what you want to do isn't confirmed by everyone. No biggy but I think it would be hot & not fun for either kids or adults but why make it sound like we're all a bunch of unspontaneous bores because we disagree with you. [ Reply | More ]
