Disturbing G&T Kinder Post from Inside Schools Blog: MaruG said...This is in reference to Kindergarten G&T applications. This past Saturday morning I received a phone call from the DOE, telling me that my application had not been received. After I calmed down, I learned that I was not alone, so I suspect that many more will be receiving phone calls as the DOE tries to process all the applicants. My preferences were taken again by phone by a very polite employee, who told me that I should probably find out where my daughter will be going to school by mid-August. There goes my summer! That sounds like placements had already been made by the time they called this person about the missing application. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I bet the letters are done and this person will get into the secondary placement group with dcs who take the test over the summer. [ Reply | More ]

If so, one can't help but think that the person whose app was lost will be disadvantaged by this. [ Reply | More ]

Maybe, but maybe not. They may not get Anderson, but I bet quite a few will turn down NEST and a few other G&Ts. [ Reply | More ]

That's true, it would depend on the score. If a 99, then that's bad news. Otherwise, maybe no effect (I sure hope so). [ Reply | More ]

maybe. maybe not. The second round placements will get all the spots that were turned down by the first round folks. I bet there will be a lot of NEST or PS 11 (for D2) to go around then. [ Reply | More ]

I actually think this sounds more plausible. In fact, given the DOE has no idea how many people will accept or reject or empty seats - this person could actually be at an ADVANTAGE! Pick of the litter of all open seats. I think they said August because they have to wait for people to accept, register, etc. I am still holding hope we get something THIS WEEK! [ Reply | More ]

I think the above is a good sign that we will! [ Reply | More ]

So, I guess people weren't paranoid when they sent their letters certified... [ Reply | More ]

The thing is, it sounds like that would not have protected you anyway. Sounds as if the placements have been done already, before they started calling around to the folks whose application forms are "missing" or never sent in. [ Reply | More ]

Actually, it did. Notification of delivery took a while, but it came through a couple of weeks ago. [ Reply | More ]

But if it was lost inside the DOE, after they confirmed receipt, then it would not have helped. [ Reply | More ]

True and the most likely scenario, but at least you have proof it was there mistake, which translates to some leverage in dealing with the problem. Otherwise, I am quite sure they will say is was someoen elses mistake: the post office, you. [ Reply | More ]

Now, helen at the insiderSchool said: helen said... Marug, I checked with DOE about your mid-August date and their press rep said that all decisions for existing applicants would be made this week. (Yours wasn't the only application that went awry in the mail...) If you got contact info for the person you spoke with at OSEPO, might be worth another call. [ Reply | More ]

I sure hope that Marug's situation is handled correctly. I would be a basket case in that situation. If our application went awry in the mail, would we even know it? [ Reply | More ]
