I'm keeping my dds home from school today. Neither school has A/C and I'm 5mo pg. We went out this weekend and both kids were miserable. Anyone else not sending their kids to school? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

op: no need for sarcasm. I don't think a dc need to be in an extremely hot classroom for 8hrs. NYC will feel like 105 degrees. That's just disgusting to deal with all day long. This is her last week of school and missing one day isn't going to hurt. Since I can keep her home, I will. [ Reply | More ]

it was a sarcastic question. Tomorrow my 3yr old doesn't have school and my 8yr old will be on a trip (a/c bus and the museum will be cool too) [ Reply | More ]

np. How would you like to spend 8 hours in an office with no a/c on a day like today? Given the option, I'm sure you'd rather not. In OP's shoes I'd do the same. [ Reply | More ]

teacher here- you have no idea what a classroom feels like when the temp is over 90. It is terrible. The school building traps heat [ Reply | More ]

I don't want to take her to work with me so off to school she goes. She'll survive. [ Reply | More ]

np; sounds like it's a diff. heat being on a farm all summer than the heat you have in a big city like NYC. I've been to places where 98 degrees isn't the same feeling [ Reply | More ]

np: I'm guessing that at the farm you could be outside, hang out in the shade, maybe play in some water... a little different than sitting in an oppressive classroom. [ Reply | More ]

keeping my dc home too. Why should I send dc in to be in that oppressive heat all day. I'm home and dc will stay cool [ Reply | More ]

I'd keep them home if the option was there. I remember elementary school in virginia w/no a/c... there were days when kids would be passing out, the principal would be pushing a cart of frozen oj from room to room just to keep us conscious... it was miserable. And believe me, no one was learning. [ Reply | More ]

i think this is smart. i went to nyc public schools with no a/c and on days like today it was unbearable. plus nothing really got done anyway. [ Reply | More ]

Took mine home (from public) before lunch. Teachers were about to faint! Most kids were staying, though. Still, I'd rather be safe, since it will probably go close to 100 in her classroom. [ Reply | More ]
