4wk old (I think has eczema) all over his face and torso. I am EBF, and have eliminated all dairy since day 1 since 2 yr old son has dairy allergy, and I don't know what it is. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Newborns get rashes--especially when it's hot and humid. Call your OB if you're concerned. [ Reply | More ]

^^For whatever reason, I used Mustela Physio Bebe and it cleared up DD's rash. [ Reply | More ]

DD has it too. Talk to your ped about a prescription non steroidal cream. It really makes a big difference, but you have to do it religiously [ Reply | More ]

I love Weleda diaper rash ointment and used it to treat rashes in all areas; breast milk is terrific for eczema too. [ Reply | More ]

Non steriod perscriptions suppress the immune system and make it look like the rash is gone. Your dc may come down w/ prolonged flulike symptoms/ear infections/lung related congestion. The DR will say it is typical for the age, but you might feel it's worse. From personal exp. I don't recommend. Our 2 allergy prone kids started at 4 weeks. We put mittens or large shirts on to prevent scratching. I don't like eucerin because my son developed secondary infections (anaerobic). I do like JASON brand lotion. It has the same protective treatment with glycerine base instead of petroleum. Talk with the DR about when you could start using benadryl for sleep. I breast fed both, but started feeling like my diet caused the eczema, and switched to hypoallergenic formula before 12mo w/ my 2nd. It was $45 per small can, smelled awful, and made no improvement. Secondary infections Staph/ Strep can be treated w/ antibiotics. GL finding a doc who will give RX. I think milk and soy are to blame. My dd is showing allergy to corn now at 17mo. I use a lot of "bad" fat in their diet. After 2 kids I believe monounsaturated (nut, olive, avacado, unsaturated, fish) oils are very problematic. For a child who is UNDERWEIGHT saturated fats are the most easily absorbed. Maybe if I had it to do over I would avoid the good oils and see if the breast milk was less problematic for my dc. Remember fish and nuts are the 2 worst food allergens. My kids are not allergic to fish phew! Enriched rice dream is ok after 1st year. GL [ Reply | More ]
