Care to elaborate? I'm debating this not knowing DC's G&T placement but knowing PS 9 is our zoned school. The main advantage I see at PS 9 (only advantage frankly) is that it's a neighborhood school. [ Reply | More ]

OR: My dcs both went to MSC for elementary (my oldest starting HS in the fall) and we feel they got a great education at MSC - loved school, loved learning, great teachers and families, etc. Have heard very good things from families about PS9 G&T but not about the gen ed. [ Reply | More ]

I'd probably go for PS 9 gen ed. MSC is too progressive for me and I teach middle school in a private school and the dc from MSC are often far less prepared than those from PS 9 or other similar gen ed. Of course those could just be the student I have had. That said, they are both good options. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Would you mind detailing what you feel the kids are lacking compared to those from other publics? Thanks! [ Reply | More ]

PS9 Gen Ed is not particularly good. Ok, but not great. Don't know about MSC, but I'd choose most gen ed's over PS9s. Their G&T, however, is great. [ Reply | More ]

MSC used to be great, but not sure if it will stay that way now that they have to recruit kids by lottery and MSC can't admit only kids from very involved parents. I think it'll be equal to PS9 Gen Ed. PS9 will attract families who are hoping for 9 G&T and sibs of PS9 gen ed will get sib preference for PS9 G&T. I say PS9. [ Reply | More ]

PS9 gen ed is the 3rd rung in the building (PS G&T and Anderson being the upper rungs). Would not choose that for my DC. [ Reply | More ]

It depends if you want an academically oriented school (PS 9 gen ed) or a progressive one (MSC). [ Reply | More ]
