We used an agency called Teachercare and hired a great nanny through them. We actually loved all the candidates they sent us and were impressed by their prescreening. This was about 3 yrs ago, though...not sure if they are still around, but you could google. [ Reply | More

we used teachercare when we first moved to the city in 2004. very impressed with the candidates, but none of them seemed very committed to being a nanny for more than a year or two. The best resource used to be the childcare board on UB. I guess it no longer exists? [ Reply | More

www.nynannyfinder.com (or maybe it was nycnannyfinder.com). I liked it for two reasons: first, the fee is much lower than most agencies, and second, you get to view a video of the candidates, kind of like a dating service, which I think is much better than trusting an agency to send you people sight unseen. It cut down a lot on the interviewing process. [ Reply | More

I have used two great agencies- one is called Abby Nanny. You can reach the owner at CZDLutz@yahoo.com and the other agency I used was Pavillion. Both agencies do a great job. Pavillion is expensive but, they did find me a stellar nanny and she stayed with us for 6 years. My current nanny / housekeeper I found through Abby Nanny which is less pricy, CZDLutz@yahoo.com, and we love her ! Both agencies interview nannies and check references and do a personality profile and have optional criminal checks... these are both very thorough agencies. There are other good ones too but, some agencies don't check references and lie a lot. [ Reply | More
