we agonized over public vs. private. spent k at our good zoned school. in the end, decided to go private. realized that the doe throws obstacles in the way of the administration by changing the rules and structure every year, that dedicated hard-working teachers struggle to teach in crowded classrooms and that our dd, while perfectly capable of thriving where ever she is, deserves better. we resent that we have to pay an obscene amount for an education in one of the richest cities in the world. it's pathetic that the public school system doesn't serve all the children in this city well, or equally. I was where you are 5 years ago. The teachers at the school were awesome and academically impressive - but after only a few months at the school and even serving on the school leadership team - i knew there was no way that I could continue public. Good luck with your DC. [ Reply | More
