you need to do some kind fo sleep training. CIO if you are cool with it, something more mild if you aren't. does she go in teh crib awake at bedtime? [ Reply | More ]

ok, you need to do some sleep trianing and you need to start with bedtime, this baby does not know how to fall asleep on her own. if you don't wantCIO, get the Pantley book. [ Reply | More ]

i'm no CIO fan but i thinkits not unusual for a 10 month old to go to sleepon ehr own and to sleep through (which are sort of the same skill). [ Reply | More ]

you need sleep training big-time: read Ferber, Weissbluth, Pantley, then pick one and do it SOON - it only gets harder [ Reply | More ]

what are you talking about? the kid is not going to be deprived of sleep. Every human being wakes up at night but goes back to sleep within moments. It doesn't make a difference if the kid is able to self-soothe or you help him going back to sleep. Forcing a child to self-soothe as soon as possible if just for the parents' advantage. The kid couldn't care less. [ Reply | More ]

if someone would feed me, and hold me for 4 hours I'd probably stay awake too. You've conditioned her that this is what you do at night. Stop feeding her, 10 mo old doesnt need to eat in the middle of the night. CIO or some version of Ferber and stop the insanity. [ Reply | More ]

we did cio for 5.5 mo db (he was waking every hour before; we co-slept), he's now 7mos, and sleeps from 7:30p-6:30a every night, stirs in the middle of night, but goes back to sleep. hated the idea of cio, but couldn't do it anymore - we were both tired and exhausted before we did it! although his naps now are a different story. is your dd sleeping too much during the day? or maybe not enough? how is she during the day? happy? miserable? shes really happy all the time and although iveexplained to the babysitter not to let her nap after 3 if possible shes still waking up at night doing this , so shes got to be sleeping somewhere! [ Reply | More ]

The napping isn't your problem..sleep begets sleep. Both of mine had late naps and still slep throught the night...one needed sleep training at 7.5 mos and one slept through on her own at 6 weeks. Good Luck. What you have going on is pure torture....sleep deprivation is used for torture and brain washing. I strongly, strongly suggest CIO for the middle of the night (you can still put her in bed asleep if you like ,at this point) Don't go in, just let her cry. If you go in , you teach her that if she cries for 20 minutes you come fetch her. So......stay in your bed. Five days, you and she will be much happier! [ Reply | More ]

Try keeping her up a little later, when she wakes up at 2 feed her and put her right back down, she will eventually get used to the schedule, it takes time but keep with a consistant schedule and it will get better. [ Reply | More ]

what time do you give her the bath? what I did in the early stages was bath, bottle in rocker with no lights, no tv, 20 minutes later bed, every night. It sets the stage for the baby. Same thing every night. It is hard but i swear it works. Also does she have a favorite toy or blanket make it part of the night time ritual it is a sense of comfort. My dd has a stuffed kitty. I would have some play time with dc and then get the bath started around 8:15 or so. give 15 minutes for bath, dress and bottle then make a ritual of some sort, we have pictures up on dd wall we say goodnight to some of her pictures give the kitty and lay her down. Depending on how much time you want to spend with her before bed depends on the order, but i wouldn't do the bath after 8:30pm. it will be a que that it is time to start getting ready for bed. Sorry long winded. [ Reply | More ]

Ignore all these pro-CIOers. There are other ways to get your kid sleep better at night without letting him cry. For starters Pantley's No Cry Sleep Solutions book. She's got plenty ideas. [ Reply | More ]

i'm the mom w/5.5mo db above; my baby was post-colic and would not soothe to sleep except for breastfeeding (nothing else worked - rocking, singing, patting, etc) so cio unfortunately worked for us... i hate to say we did it, but we did. if db is able to be soothed to sleep with different ways (common fussy babies in weissbluth language), then i think pantley would def help (i'd read the book).. the only thing i did not like was that she herself had a 12mo who was waking every hr! i didn't really want to take advice from someone whose kid woke up 6 times a night at 1 yr of age. waking up that often at that age is very normal for non-CIOed children. Nothing wrong with that. It just shows that the authors understands what she's doing and keeps it consistent. Yes, it can take up to two years for a child to self-soothe to sleep at night. So what? [ Reply | More ]

nah. I keep telling me exactly that now with an infant (who wakes 3 times a night), a toddler who just started to sleep through predictably (20 months old) and a preschooler who just does not want to get out of bed in the morning. I know it will get better (or rather different). [ Reply | More ]
