OK, so we are selling the house. Got an offer 2 days ago. Got another offer last night for 10K more. Our debate: do we risk pissing off the 1st buyers and tell them about the higher offer and see what they can do. WWYD? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Did you verbally accept offer? If so, then I wouldn't break your word (bad karma). If not, you have no reason not to get back to first offer and say hey we have another offer for $10k more, would you consider raising yours and see where it takes you. [ Reply | More ]

we signed to contract, but are in NJ and you can accept other offers until you are out of attny review. We want to stick w/them, but we kind of want to see if they will offer any more money. They offered 20K under asking. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know, I'm not sure what I would do in this situation. It's certainly nice to get more money for your house but you could also get screwed if you piss them off. What is your gut telling you to do? I would probably stick with original buyers if I felt good about them and I had already signed a contract. [ Reply | More ]

that's the tough part . . they seem nice, but they are far under asking (and our house is on the cheaper side too) so to get 10K more, means a lot to us. If they could match it or come close, we would go w/them and take the house off the market and not accept any other bids. I don't want a full-on bidding war, but I would like to make some money. We feel they would come up b/c it was a lowball anyway. DH and I are like this too, lowball and try to get the best deal you can . . . but they clearly want the house so isn't it worth asking where they stand - that's our feeling. Plus, we don't have to accept the other offer, we can simply say we're sticking w/you (1st offer). [ Reply | More ]

np: I would tell them you have another offer. You will honor theirs as long as everything moves quickly. (I have never been seller so I pull this idea out of a dark place where the sun doesn't shine. It is where most (of my?) UB posts originate. [ Reply | More ]

this happened to us, and we went back to them and told them we'd received a higher offer (but we had only orally accepted their offer, we hadn't signed K yet). they offered more money, though less than the 2d bidder, and we stuck with the 1st bidder (but at their higher offer). [ Reply | More ]

that is exactly what we would do. I want to stick w/them, but I also want some more money! If they can't match it fine, but if they could give more that would be great and we would accept (again) and take the house off the market. [ Reply | More ]

I would tell them you want to stick with them and offer to split the difference (they pay $5K more). [ Reply | More ]
