Downstairs neighbors (rightfully) freaking out over our footsteps. I need a cheap 8x10 rug to cover the floor. Where should I loook? DH seems to like traditional/oriental rugs so I'll give him this one :). There is nothing suitable on craigslist, he didn't like anything affordable on Macys.com; overstock; pottery barn; west elm; C&B. UGH! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Hey, that wasn't OP. DH is really nice and out of town on business. I pick most furniture out... I want him to like our house too. [ Reply | More ]

or: I totally get that, but he can search websites too. It's a rug and doesn't seem important to him, but it's important enough for him to have some specific tastes. In other words, he knows what he doesn't want, so he needs to help figure out what he does like. [ Reply | More ]

My dh does the same thing. I run around and search websites giving him as many options as possible and he just sits there and says, "no. next. no. next." as if he some sort of diva. Drives me crazy! [ Reply | More ]

It's sad, though, that we have to point it out to her that if he has the last say in what rug to pick he should do the footwork. Isn't this common sense? [ Reply | More ]

There are some decent and very cheap "tribal" rugs on ebay, but they will need a good cleaning. I got a 9X12 very pretty kilim for $100. [ Reply | More ]

I'd try ABC outlet, HomeGoods in NJ if you can get there, ballard designs online or rugsunderfoot.com. Also, if you go to ABC they usually have remnants of wall to wall carpet that they will finish for you. I"ve gotten great rugs for as little as $100. [ Reply | More ]

Can you ask neighbors to help share cost of rug? I've been wondering about that as my dd gets bigger and noisier and we are short on $$. [ Reply | More ]

most bldgs actually have a clause in the lease/shareholders agreement that stipulates a certain percentage of the floor must be covered. [ Reply | More ]

Oh yeah. . . I think we do, tho it's not enforced. Damn! I would've loved to have the rude single guy who just did a major $$$$ renovation downstairs help pay for our $200 rug. :) But I'm a good neighbor so I can suck it up. [ Reply | More ]

No, not so entitled, tho I can see how my post read that way. Our old building carries the sound of footsteps or ANYTHING that falls on the floor very loudly; we hear our upstairs neighbors' toddler daughter drop cups, etc., constantly. I can even hear it when their small cat runs across the floor. I was asking the question more out of wistful hope than actual expectation. [ Reply | More ]

I wish my upstairs neighbor were as considerate as you! He stomps back and forth all night long. I seriously wonder if the guy sleeps cause he's generally up until 5 in the morning. [ Reply | More ]

No, you do not want to live under us! Last night DD dumped all her blocks and legos on the 10% of her room that is not carpeted. And sometimes she wakes up and runs to us at 6am so we just get up and play. [ Reply | More ]
