WHY is there a witching hour? I mean, what causes it? db is so mellow all day but from 6=11pm, just when I want to try to have a meal and/or conversation with dh, it's all screaming and pacing and bouncing. Sigh. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Overtired. That's what Happiest Baby on the Block and some others theorize. [ Reply | More ]

She slept most of the day, though. Hmmm... [ Reply | More ]

Maybe she need to sleep less during the day and go down for the night between 6-8. Keeping her up to 11 is way late. [ Reply | More ]

This would be fine with me but I thought the feeling was "never wake a sleeping baby". Maybe I'll try to keep her up more during the day tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks. [ Reply | More ]

She may have her day and nights messed up. Try to keep her in light as much as you can during the day. [ Reply | More ]

trying to keep them awake and waking them up are two different things. [ Reply | More ]

no it isn't. That would mean all babies did this and they don't. [ Reply | More ]

All the baby books do not say there is a neurological development state where ALL babies cry and fret at a "witching" hour. But its not worth arguing about. [ Reply | More ]

Well, she's 12 weeks, but was born 8 weeks early. So it's kind of hard to say. You're probably right, though. [ Reply | More ]

I've read that when they're early, you subtract the weeks to get the "real" age. So, you're about on track for mild colic. It peaks at 6 weeks and tapers off by 12 or 16 weeks. I remember pretty much constantly nursing from 4 to 11 p.m. for a few weeks with #2. [ Reply | More ]
