I'm exploring the possibility of getting a mid-size terrier so I've been walking a friend's dog to get the hang of it. Surprisingly, it's pleasant (even the picking up isn't such a terrible thing). And dog runs have nice people and dogs in them. Any of you own a mid-size terrier - like the American Wheaten terrier? Scottish terriers are lovely too. But I'm still not sure which breed to get. No input on terriers for you, sorry. But just a note - walking a friend's dog & having one full time are vastly different. Do you have the time & energy to give a dog? I hate when super busy people get dogs & just leave them sitting at home all the time. Not fair. If you do have the time, they are so rewarding. Nothing like someone being excited when you come home, whether you've been gone for 3 minutes or 3 hours. Enjoy! [ Reply | More ]

Love Wheatens. Keep in mind that they are very playful dogs, don't love being left alone and will chew on furniture and rugs out of "resentment" Happened with my parents when they had a Wheaten. [ Reply | More ]

OP - I agree - my friend's Wheaten has chewed every piece of furniture and every shoe. But they seem very loveable dogs. Another favorite I like to look at is the Japanese Sheba - it looks like a red fox with a crew cut - beautiful face. And the huskie dogs - all sizes - really wonderful. So hard to choose because dog breeds are so different. I see a lot of West Highland white terriers all over the place. [ Reply | More ]
