Moving 21 mo Crib Escapee to a twin bed tonight. Anyone have some good tips, esp. w/how to teach him you stay in bed until the morning? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

We put the crib mattress on the floor next to the bed in case he fell out (which he did!). We put a gate at the door to his room too. It took a few weeks before our son would sleep in the bed as he he used to get up and sleep in his chair. We found that putting a padded mattress topper on made the difference as the bed mattress was too firm. [ Reply | More

even if mattress is very close to floor, have a bed rail on from the first night. The feeling of insecurity/worry over falling can really stress a kid out and make the transition harder. [ Reply | More

what about putting one of those things on the door handle on the inside of hte door so they can't open the door from the inside? Or this very bad and mean to do? [ Reply | More

np: smart, I think. Or even just a hook near the top of the door. My parents locked me in my room at that age because I was a big wanderer, and I'm no worse for wear 34 yrs later... Also, I like having the BR door actually closed. It's better for blocking noise, and more fire safe. [ Reply | More
