I really like to read Gruffaloo to a group because I can use a different voice for each animal (Mouse is Brooklyn/Joe Pesci; Owl is snooty English Lord; Snake is Ssssilky sssmooth voice; etc.) I also really like Tickle the Duck because the kids will go nuts tickling the duck. (You have to know the group for this one.) Also, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus is a good one (Have the kids answer the pigeon en masse -- "NO!") And finally I love Reading Icky Sticky Frog. I read it in a deep, Venus Flytrap/Cool Jazz DJ voice. (I'm a dad.) I can go on... [ Reply | More ]

then Don't Tickle the Duck is not a great choice. They can get aggressive (in that fun kid way) about tickling the duck in the book. [ Reply | More ]

I actually think these books are more for 3 year olds than 5 year olds. [ Reply | More ]

For reading to a larger group of pre K kids? Those kids love these types of books. You can read headier books to them but they won't enjoy it as much. Zen Shorts is great one on one with a 5 year old. But read it to 20 4-5 year olds and you'll be fighting for their attention. At least that has been my experience. [ Reply | More ]

Library Lion. There are a couple places where the lion roars, and the kids can "help" you make the sound. It's a very sweet book. It's only been out a year or so, so it might be new to them, too. [ Reply | More ]
